Uneven and Sloping Floors: Why They Happen and How to Level Them

Minor variation of a fraction of an inch over a long span is common and not a concern, especially in older homes. A slope you can feel when walking, or a drop of more than about an inch over twenty feet, usually signals an active issue worth investigating. We use a laser level to measure the slope precisely before recommending anything.

The goal of a repair is to stabilize the structure and recover as much elevation as can be safely achieved, but lifting back to perfectly flat is not always possible without cracking finishes. Slab lifting is done through small ports drilled in the slab that are patched afterward. We work from below whenever possible to avoid disturbing your living space.

Controlling moisture stops the ongoing rot that weakens joists, but framing that is already damaged still needs to be reinforced or replaced. Encapsulation and a vapor barrier protect the repair so the problem does not return. We typically combine structural support with moisture control for a lasting result.
